Draft Guidelines for Contributors Print E-mail

Firstly, we are delighted to receive contributions on any subject connected with sustainable living and/or ecology. However, to avoid dissappointment please do not write an indepth piece specifically for The Local Planet without first contacting our editor with an outline proposal.

There are a number of points to keep in mind when considering contributing an article to The Local Planet. These are largely common sense.

1) A third party cannot hold copyright to the material in question.

2) If the article was previously published, we need to know the circulation details. If the material was published in any widely available media, it is unlikely that we would have any interest in reproducing same.

3) Statements of fact that are being quoted from other material should be supported with footnotes including: source(s), author(s), publisher and page number(s).

4) Political neutrality must be maintained as far as possible.

5) Anti establishment comments will impact negatively on the writer and the paper and should not be included.

6) As the paper is available to everyone, articles should be written in plain English or Irish. Jargon and complex technical terms should be omitted unless absolutely necessary.

7) Original photographs and illustrations will greatly increase the possibility of publication.

8) Numbers from one to fifty should be written out in full: e.g. fifty not 50.

For the first number of issues, contributors to 'The Local Planet' will not be paid. However, when the paper becomes established, writers will receive a payment on a per word basis. This page will be updated with relevant info in advance of the introduction of these payments. In the meantime writers will have to settle for becoming famous or infamous depending on the relevant published words!
